Man Food, It Starts Early

We’re in Publix today and my boys are insisting on buying Slim Jims. This is all they want. We walk through the aisle searching for Slim Jims and find something similar made by another company.

In the car they inform me that this ‘imitation’ Slim Jim tastes like junk. I asked them, “What does a Slim Jim taste like?” and the reply was, “Like these, but good.”

I haven’t had a Slim Jim since I was a kid. I don’t remember thinking they were great food. I put them up there with Spam.

I was informed by Son#2 that Slim Jims are like hotdogs, but portable. Heh. Not to my recollection.

Slim Jims.... spicy sticks-o-lard! They taste okay, but it feels like you just brushed your teeth with crisco after eating one!

Slim Jims are spicy, greasy, chewy, looong-lasting aftertaste. But they're good, ESPECIALLY compared to Spam.

I've been trying to nibble away last year's hurricane supplies, so I tried a can of Spam and am happy as Hades I didn't have to eat that dreck during the blackouts after the storms. I'd rather live on plain bread and water...

Slim Jims rock! It's good that you are starting your kids at an early age on the good things in life. However, you really need to get them to try real Beaf jerky... The stuff you have to suck on in order to chew and swallow it. Either that or Tyson now has some Spicy Buffalo dehydrateed chicken chunks... They rock too... although they are not that spicey, they just have a good flavor. God, I live dried meat.

Slim Jims are okay if you're hungry and don't have any spam handy, but jerky is a lot better. We eat beef, venison and turkey jerky. The good thing about it is you can just stick it in your pocket until you need it.

T1G is right! It does make your teeth feel like you brushed them with Crisco!

You know, if you get just the right brand of slim jim, you can actually use it as a spoon to eat spam right out of the can.
